德国康斯坦茨大学生物系知名教授，1971年毕业于德国歌廷根大学微生物学系。主要从事分子植物病理学和分子细胞学的研究。1999-2001曾任《Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions》杂志编委，1987-今任《Physiological and Molecular Plant Pathology》杂志编委。
主要研究方向：（1）真菌侵染和锈菌中的活体营养；（2）普通芦苇相关真菌多样性及其在芦苇群落的建立和衰落中的作用；（3）火疫病的生物防治机制。
在Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, Nature, Plant Cell, Plant Physiology, Planta, Proceedings of the National Academy Science of the United States of America, Science, The Plant Journal, Trends in Plant Science等许多著名国际学术期刊上发表了200多篇研究论文和评论。
