History
SDAU,
which is a well-known university with a hundred years of
history, was first founded in JiĄŻnan in 1906 as the Shandong
Agricultural and Forestry School of Higher Learning. In
1913, it changed its name to the Shandong Public Agricultural
Studying School, which, in 1926,was merged with five other
schools and renamed as the Provincial Public Shandong University.
Within this university the Shandong Public Agricultural
Studying School turned into the Provincial Public Agricultural
College of Shandong University. In 1928, it changed its
name to the Agricultural College of State Public Shandong
University located in Qingdao. In 1937, as the anti-Japanese
war broke out, the college moved from Qingdao to Wan county,
Sichuan Province and then moved back to its original location
in Qingdao in 1946. At that time, there were three departments
(agronomy, horticulture and aquaculture) and a farm in the
Agricultural College of Shandong University. In 1947, the
Shandong Provincial Public Agricultural College with four
departments (agronomy, horticulture, forestry and agricultural
economics) was founded on the original location of the Shandong
Public Agricultural Studying School in Jinan and was later
renamed the Shandong Agricultural College. In 1952, as a
result of adjustment and regulation of colleges and departments
by the Ministry of Education, a newly-established Shandong
Agricultural College came into being after merging with
the Agricultural College of Shandong University, Shandong
Agricultural College, Agricultural Studying College of Qilu
University, Horticultural Department of Nanjing University,
and Horticultural Department of Agricultural College of
Jinling University. In the new Agricultural College, there
gathered a large group of experts and professors who were
outstanding and influential both at home and abroad, such
as: Chen Ruitai, Li jiawen, Ding Jubo, Wang Qinghe. They
laid a solid foundation for the development and construction
of our College and disciplines with many yearsĄŻ hard work
and effort.
In 1958, Shandong Agricultural College
(SDAC) moved from JiĄŻnan to TaiĄŻan. Owing
to its outstanding achievements, it was highly praised many
times by the Ministry of High Learning and Education. In
April 1964,when Chairman Mao Zedong visited the Shandong
Scientific and Research Achievement Exhibition, he listened
attentively to the work report made by our college and gave
an affirmative confirmation to the progress of our achievements.
Since the 1980ĄŻs, SDAC has
come into a new stage of development. In 1983, it changed
its name to Shandong Agricultural University, as it is called
today, having been approved by the Ministry of Education
and Shandong Provincial Government. In July 1999, a new
Shandong Agricultural University came into being after merging
with Shandong Hydraulic Studying College and Shandong Forestry
School, with the ratification of Shandong Provincial Government.
Experiencing trials and hardships
through a hundred-year of many vicissitudes of life, with
great effort of several generations, SDAU has developed
into a comprehensive, well-known university in Qilu with
a complete range of subjects, significant strength, considerable
scale, and a high academic level. |
